Director of Programme Delivery, Manchester

As we enter the stage of rapid commercialisation, we are now looking for an exceptional individual who will help us to mature our delivery culture, processes and practices and take full ownership of all programme and project delivery activities across the business.

The Director of Programme Delivery role will assume responsibility for the delivery of our technology roadmap, our external grant-funded innovation projects and equally important, the delivery of customer implementation projects. They will achieve this by overseeing all technology resource teams, the project management office and the technical engineering team.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, monitor and proactively manage all programme and project deliverables across the business, implementing best practice and best in class toolsets.
  • Provide clear input and guidance into the operational management framework of the business.
  • Provide Lean and Agile coaching both within the delivery teams and throughout the Company.
  • You will help to remove blockers and impediments to delivery.
  • You will provide a healthy balance between delivery and sustainability.
  • You will develop highly effective team dynamics.
  • You will protect the productivity of the delivery teams.

Required Experience           

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Acted as line manager for software development teams of 30 or more.
  • Experience of Agile delivery at scale.
  • A demonstrable range of experiences in Lean and Agile organisations and a deep knowledge of applying both Scrum and Kanban, while also being able to talk confidently about the importance of the XP technical practices, Lean Startup, Lean UX and DevOps cultures.
  • Ideally worked at both team and organisational levels, helping organisations develop mature lean-agile cultures.

VP Account Management, Manchester

As we enter the stage of rapid commercialisation and customer account growth, we are now looking for an exceptional individual who will help us to define, oversee, track, and optimise a market-leading customer account management strategy; embedding within Upside a customer-centric culture that creates engaged customers and facilitates rapid revenue expansion from ‘won’ customer accounts.

The overarching purpose of the VP Account Management role is to foster customer loyalty and revenue growth by delivering customer ‘delight’ as every stage of engagement. We envisage a partnership led approach to delivering high-quality interactions, achieving a symbiotic drive for capacity acquisition while maintaining excellent levels of customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver a customer account management strategy which creates an end to end customer excellence journey to drive customer growth and advocacy
  • Identify and develop, through continuous improvement initiatives, valuable key stakeholder relationships with our customers and in turn, influence and grow our revenue streams within them
  • Responsible for monitoring the performance of our products and services with our Customers and devising initiatives to optimise and improve the value of these products and services
  • Work with all functions within Upside to ensure that the customer is at the heart of what we do and every decision we make has the customer in mind

Software Tester, Manchester

Role Purpose

We need someone to help us with our testing and quality assurance processes. The role will play an important part in our product development process – you’ll be responsible for mentoring and facilitating our development teams in good testing practices as well as developing and executing exploratory and automated tests to ensure our Product runs smoothly and meets our Customers’ needs.

Our platform orchestrates a distributed fleet of electrical devices that can add or remove load from the power network. These devices are broad in range and high in number. The cloud services consist of a number of containerised micro-services running on AWS. Most of the codebase is written in Java 8, with python used for rapid prototyping, serverless solutions (AWS lambdas), and statistical analysis tools.

Ultimately, we’re looking for a brilliant tester to help us define and shape our testing strategy for this Product; monitoring all stages of development to identify and resolve malfunctions to meet our quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • You will be the focal point for integration, end-to-end and performance testing activities
  • Working with the development teams mentoring and educating to ensure they follow good testing practices
  • Part of your role will include API performance testing using JMeter and Gatling
  • Our customer console is a key part of our system so testing an Angular2 web application using Typescript Jasmine and Protractor will be required
  • Participating in regular 3 amigos sessions

Required Experience           

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • 3+ years of industry experience in software development and quality assurance
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development process
  • Experience in writing clear, concise and comprehensive test plans and test cases
  • Hands-on experience with automated testing tools
  • A drive to get things done in a collaborative, agile development environment

Lead Front End Developer, Manchester

Role Purpose

The Upside console is becoming an integral part of our system as we integrate with more and more customers. Over the next year we are going to be focusing on improving our dashboards, adding more interesting insights and making them faster. We want someone who can own the front end codebase and champion best practices as we go along this journey.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the front-end code base
  • Champion best practices in coding standards
  • Deliver customer facing features quickly and to a high standard
  • Ensuring best practices are adhered to will reduce future tech debt
  • Create quality mockups and prototypes
  • Stay up-to-date on emerging technologies
  • Optimise applications for maximum speed
  • Collaborate with back-end developers and the wider Upside community to improve usability
  • Get feedback from, and build solutions for, our wide range of users and customers
  • Write functional requirement documents and guides
  • Ensure high quality graphic standards and brand consistency

Required Experience           

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • We expect you to be a tech-savvy professional, who is curious about new digital technologies and aspires to combine usability with visual design.
  • Experience with Type Script, Angular (we’re currently using Angular 6), CSS/SASS, Jasmine
  • Experience with working with data delivered over websockets
  • Familiarity with browser testing and debugging
  • Working in a rapidly changing agile environment.
  • In-depth understanding of the entire web development process (design, development and deployment)
  • Understanding of layout aesthetics
